Free Android Apps That Will Make Your Life Easier and More Fun!

The Android apps in the lifestyle category are essentially tools that can help make your life easier and more fun. The free Android apps on this list are no exception to that- they are all fun apps that can help with one thing or the other. I wouldn’t say that any of these free Android apps are critical for your survival. I would say that if you like to have fun and do things efficiently, your Android phone can help and these 10 free Android apps are a great place to start! Here are ten of the best free Android lifestyle apps:

craigsphone (craigslist)

This free Android app lets you access Craiglist, the popular classified ads website, using your Android phone. You can do pretty much anything- from browsing the ads to even posting an ad complete with photos from your phone! Useful and convenient, Craigsphone is a must for people like myself who can’t go a few hours without checking on the items available on CL!

OpenTable

This is an excellent free Android lifestyle app if you like dining out and trying new places. OpenTable can help you find the best restaurants near you. You can even use the app to book reservations and view the restaurant’s menu (as well as access reviews to help you decide where to eat).

10001 Cocktails

This app has every drink imaginable and they’re broken down by liquor type. When you’re browsing through the thousands of drinks, if you see one you like, simply add it to “My Drinks” so that you can utilize it later! There are many uses for this app and endless possibilities when it would be handy to have along. All I know is it’s great to have along for bar hopping!

Bartender

Why am I listing two of the same type apps on this list? Because they’re both amazing and I’m torn to pick just one of these great apps. I have both on my Android phone and many may think it’s a bit excessive, but when it’s party time, no one would complain! With an amazing search function and the ability to let users post and rate/review recipes, Bartender is one of the best free Android apps around.

My Honey Days

Probably not what you’d expect from this list of free Android lifestyle apps, My Days is an app designed for women. It can predict your ovulation and fertility schedules. If you’re trying to get pregnant, this free Android app may just help you out.

Ultimate Stopwatch & Timer

This free Android lifestyle app is exactly what its name says: a great stopwatch. It really has every possible function you could think you may need when it comes to having a stopwatch. This app can even run in the background and alert you when the timing is complete.

DailyHoroscope

Again, another free Android app that does exactly what its name says. This app even allows you to view predictions for previous days (so you can check whether the horoscope was accurate or not). If you’re into this sort of thing, which I’m not, this is probably your best bet. All I can say is that this app functions well and looks great. As far as the content goes- well you be the judge!

Layar Reality Browser

This is one of the more ingenious apps on this list. It’s extremely popular for good reason. It’s an app that’s not the easiest to describe. I’ll just say this- download it and mess around with it- you won’t be disappointed!

Relax and Sleep

If listening to something helps you fall asleep, this is a great app for you. There’s quite a range of noises, sounds and music that will help you get into a more relaxed state. This is a great Android app for those of us who need to make the most of our “unwind time”!

My Tracks

This app was developed by the My Tracks Team at Google. Being a Google app, we have certain expectations and this app definitely meets or exceeds them! This Android app records your GPS movements and shows live statistics like speed, time, distance travelled and more. It’s like having an expensive portable GPS device with you at all times for FREE! Pretty awesome app.

iPhone Vs Android: The Real Showdown!

Let’s start measuring both the mobile platforms with features which we care about the most.

In terms of ease of use, most of the users will agree that iPhone takes the cake. Android has come a long way and has improved a lot but from the ease-of-use perspective, the iPhone wins hands down. Android phones consist of too many buttons and home screens too.

In terms of openness, Android is the clear winner since it is open source, and most users prefer openness in terms of what can be used with the smartphone. The apps make the phone, after all!

iPhone has the best battery compared to the Android phones. Most Android devices get lots of features and that is why the battery life is lower compared to the iPhone. Android phones vary in terms of battery performance but overall they are a notch lower than the iPhone here.

Both the mobile platforms are supportive of multi-tasking. iPhones and Android phones both support multitasking to the hilt nowadays while iPhone has had some trade-offs in terms of battery life improvements which is important too!

The iPhone’s software keyboard is significantly better than the Android’s default keyboard while in terms of a system-wide search, both iPhone and Android can search out almost anything although Android devices cannot search emails.

iPhone’s notification center is a bit clumsy compared to the Android’s list of notifications. But in terms of voice to text feature, the odds are slightly in favor of the iPhone since with the new Siri, the feature works much better than any of its counterparts.

iPhones are surprisingly old-fashioned when it comes to syncing and it requires the users to plug in and connect to iTunes that should have been done wirelessly. Android phones have a fantastic Google syncing capability so much so that it continues to work even if you change or lose your old smartphone.

Android is not so great in syncing with popular sources of data other than Google Sync especially Outlook, Address Book and the like. Here iPhone is the clear winner. The Android tethering situation is seriously better off than what the iPhone provides. Android edges ahead of the iPhone since it has the ability to turn your handset into a Wi-Fi hotspot which can actually deliver wireless connections to you of up to 7 friends.

Apple presents the iOS updates better than what Android does. The iPhone ecosystem is pretty much easy to understand and every new phone receives the new update. Every other phone in the ecosystem can also receive the update unless and until it is the oldest one.Android does not have a streamlines way of going about the updates.

And one of the most important feature of all: the apps. Though the Apple store has more than four times the number of apps than that of Android, there is a lot of crap too in the App Store. Also, as of now most of the critical apps are now available for both the iPhone and Android. Overall, it can be said that both are good.

One can safely say that in terms of gaming and music experience, there’s no beating the iPhone apps yet. Android has a lot of catching up to do with the Android apps.

Game Dev Tycoon Review

Game Dev Tycoon is the first video game developed by Greenheart Studios, and shows great promise. You take on the role of a game developer, reliving the early years of the gaming industry in your garage, upgrade to offices and beyond, and live in the modern day of gaming, and even beyond!

When you begin, you start off in a garage, and as a programmer, you will begin creating your first games during the early years of the gaming revolution. When you begin you create your company name, and name your avatar and choose basics customization options. Once you start, you can begin creating your first game. You will start off with 4 random game topics, and once you select your topic you will pick a genre (action, simulation, strategy, etc). Once you are happy with your selection, and select a console/computer to put it on, you will start the development process. Development of a game has 3 stages, with 3 sliders for each stage (for a total of 9). These stages will have options such as engine, graphics, level design, artificial intelligence, etc. Depending on the game topic and genre, certain combinations will value greater focus on certain subjects than others. For instance, Action games favor engine, graphics, and artificial intelligence for better review scores. Once you are done with your game the last phase is removing bugs from your game, and having a large number of bugs will hurt your score. When you are content with the bug removal and content to publish your game, you will soon receive a review score from 4 reviewers. Depending on how well made the game is, will ultimate affect your profits and sales.

Once done with the game you can generate a report, which will give you valuable information about the topic, genre, and how the system you select responds to the topic and genre. You will generate research points, which you can research new technologies and new topics, such as custom engines and so forth. You can also use research points to train yourself and your employees to better their technology, design, speed, and research skills. With high enough skill points in the fields, you can specialize them in certain fields, such as graphics, or artificial intelligence.

As you unlock new technologies, you can create your own custom game engine to better your games. As you upgrade to higher offices you can employ more workers, gain access to larger games, even access to research and development labs, and hardware labs to produce your very own gaming consoles! The game features a 35 year campaign which will last you several hours, and allows you to continue playing the current game after the game is over if you wish.

The tutorials provided help teach you enough of the game to help develop your games, but I feel a little more explanation could of been added, or additional tool-tips, but these are just minor suggestions to help make the game a bit better in my own opinion. Overall, I find the game enjoyable and if you are into the tycoon or business sim genre of games, I believe you will find a good deal of enjoyment from the game. For a first game from Greenheart games, I enjoy it and will look forward to future titles.
